Sylvan scene is an allusion to the fourth book of Paradise Lost written by John Milton. This scene was where Satan came in the view of Eden which is a pretty appropriate forecast of the following allusion to Philomela who was violently raped by her sister's husband – King Tereus. King Tereus in this case may be the equivalent of Satan, and the raping of Philomela was like Satan entering the Eden.
