1. This is an allusion to John Webster’s The Devil’s Law Case. During the story of the The Devil’s Law Case, there is a female patient who ask her doctor if the murderer is behind the door, the doctor replied that if the wind is still blowing beneath the door, then the murderer is still there. The allusion seem to tell us that the speaker is in a state of paranoid, scared. This could also be a metaphor the life of the people at the time.

The sudden response “Nothing again nothing” sound like a comfort of another person to the speaker. It can also seem to mean that the state of nothingness in the society.

3. Then come the three repeated questions, the speaker is trying to ask if the other person really know nothing at all. Again, this also seem like a madmen talking, signify the continuing collapsing the mind.
